Airfree Maps 3.0 introduces real-time digital twin visualisation at national scale
Illustrative preview: this is a sample announcement for illustration only, not a record of a past event.
The latest release of Airfree Maps introduces CesiumJS-powered 3D digital twin rendering, live IoT sensor overlays, and AI-driven change detection for national mapping agencies and smart city operators.
Airfree Group today announced Airfree Maps 3.0, the largest release of its interactive mapping platform to date. The release brings real-time three-dimensional digital twin visualisation to the browser at national scale, rendering entire cities and terrain from streamed 3D Tiles without any third-party mapping provider.
Airfree Maps runs exclusively on Airfree’s own internal map graphs and vector tiles, served same-origin through the platform edge. There is no dependency on external tile, routing, or geocoding services — a deliberate design choice that keeps sovereign and sensitive geospatial data inside the customer’s trust boundary.
A digital twin in the browser
The headline capability is a CesiumJS-based globe that streams 3D Tiles 1.1 and photorealistic terrain directly from the Airfree platform. Operators can fly from a continental view down to an individual building, with time-series animation for shadow studies, flood modelling, and construction progress.
- CesiumJS globe with bundled Natural Earth II imagery — no external imagery keys required.
- Streamed 3D Tiles 1.1 for city-scale meshes and classified point clouds.
- Time-series playback for shadow, flood, and change-over-time scenarios.
Live sensor overlays and change detection
Maps 3.0 connects the visual layer to the platform’s real-time services, so IoT sensor feeds — traffic, air quality, water level, and asset telemetry — render as live overlays on the twin. An AI-driven change-detection layer, built on the Earth Observation pipeline, flags new construction, vegetation loss, and coastline movement between satellite passes.
Availability
Airfree Maps 3.0 is generally available to Airfree Geospatial and Airfree Government customers today, and rolls out to Maps subscribers over the coming weeks. Existing map styles, layers, and saved views carry over automatically. Teams can request a guided walkthrough with their own datasets through the Airfree contact desk.
