How Airfree delivers integrated GIS workflows through open OGC standards

Airfree Group Communications1 min read

Illustrative preview: this is a sample announcement for illustration only, not a record of a past event.

Open OGC standards let government teams move data between the Airfree geospatial platform and the GIS desktop tools they already use — such as Esri ArcGIS — with no data lock-in.

Airfree Group designs its geospatial platform for standards-based interoperability, so agencies can use it alongside the GIS desktop and analysis tools their analysts already know — such as Esri ArcGIS — without duplicating or migrating authoritative data.

Open standards, not proprietary bridges

Rather than relying on proprietary connectors, integration is built on Open Geospatial Consortium standards. Airfree exposes its cadastre, imagery, and analytical layers through OGC API — Features, Tiles, and Maps, alongside classic WMS, WFS, WCS, and WMTS services, so standards-compliant clients consume them as native web layers.

  • OGC API — Features, Tiles, Maps, and Processes for modern clients.
  • WMS 1.3.0, WFS 2.0, WCS 2.1, and WMTS 1.0 for established GIS workflows.
  • STAC 1.0 catalogues so analysis-ready imagery is discoverable across systems.

What it means for agencies

Government teams keep their authoritative datasets on sovereign Airfree infrastructure while continuing to use the desktop and analysis tools their analysts already know. Because the exchange is standards-based, there is no vendor lock-in in either direction — a core requirement in public-sector procurement.

Standards-based by design

Because the platform speaks open standards throughout, reference workflows for cadastre, planning, and emergency management can be built on top of existing GIS estates rather than replacing them.
