Setting up MX records for email delivery
Direct incoming mail for your domain to the right mail servers with MX records.
MX (Mail Exchanger) records tell the world which servers accept mail for your domain. If you use Airfree Clouds email, we set them for you; if you host mail elsewhere, you point them there.
How MX records work
- Each MX record has a hostname and a priority number.
- Lower priority numbers are tried first; equal numbers share the load.
- A domain usually has two or more MX records for redundancy.
Setting them
In the DNS panel, add the MX records your mail provider specifies with the exact hostnames and priorities. For Airfree Clouds email, enabling a mailbox on the domain applies the correct MX records automatically — you do not edit them by hand.
MX records point at hostnames, not IP addresses, and those hostnames need their own A/AAAA records to resolve.
